Only one of them is complete. There are also fragments of her poetry, including 63 complete, single lines and perhaps 264 fragments. The fourth poem is a recent discovery from rolls of papyrus in Cologne University.

Ett av fragmenten i boken lyder: Jag säger dig, man kommeratt minnas oss i framtiden. Sapfo är den första kända kvinnliga poeten i historien. [1] Mycket få fullständiga dikter är bevarade. Enligt grekiska källor ledde Sapfo en thiasos – vilket kan betyda kultförsamling, skola, rituell grupp, förening för fester eller mysteriekult , och det är osäkert vilken betydelse man bör lägga in i ordet i just hennes fall. Sappho is not only one of the few women poets we know of from antiquity, but also is one of the greatest lyric poets from any age. Most of her poems were meant to be sung by one person to the accompaniment of the lyre (hence the name, "lyric" poetry).

If you don’t know, Sappho is the ancient Greek lyric poet from the Island of Lesbo’s. Basically, she’s the queen of all lesbians. And while little is known of her personal life, she shared so much inspiration and beauty through her poetry. She was known to write over 10,000 lines of poetry, but today, only about 650 lines survive.

This is an attempt to collect Sappho's entire work together in one page — with Greek originals, succinct translations, and commentary. When I first searched for Sappho's poems on the web, I found that most sites used out-of-date translations and numberings, with no original Greek.

The translations are from "The Poems of Sappho, with Historical and Critical Notes, Translations, and a Bibliography" by Edwin Marion Cox, Published 1925. The translations are in the public domain in the United States due to the lack of copyright notice in the 1925 edition.

The world has long wished for more of Sappho's poetry, which exists mostly in tantalizing fragments. So the apparent recovery in 2004 of a virtually intact poem  Den Tithonus dikt , även känd som ålderdom dikt eller (med fragment av en annan dikt av Sappho upptäckte samtidigt) i New Sappho är en dikt  Of course, SM gear first made popular by the lyric poet, Sappho.

Varje text uppenbarar ett nytt perspektiv på Sapfos  “Fragment 31” av Sapfo är en klassiker i ordets rätta bemärkelse och en av de som jag vill att eleverna ska känna till och en skicklig poet som känns tidlös.
